Donald George Sutherland enlisted into the United States Army on April 13, 1942 from Boston, Massachusetts. After his basic training and 4 weeks of Parachute Jump School he became a member of the 505 Parachute Infantry Regiment, I company, 82nd Airborne Division in August of 1942. Tech/Sergeant Donald G. Sutherland served in all six campaigns the 82nd Division fought in during WW-II. The six campaign were 1) Sicily, 2) Naples - Foggia, 3) Normandy, 4) Rhineland, 5) Ardennes, 6) Central Europe. Donald made combat jumps into Sicily, Paestum, Italy, Normandy, France and his 4th combat jump was into Nijmegan, Holland.
When the war ended in May of 1945, soldiers needed an ASR score of 85 points to return home. Donald's ASR score was 109, more than enough points to go back to the United States. During the war he earned the Good Conduct medal, the Distinguished Unit Badge, the Purple Heart medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, the European, African, Middle Eastern, Theater Campaign Ribbon with Bronze Service Arrowhead.(4) for July 13,1943, October 6,1943, June 7,1944 and September 29,1944.

Staff Sergeant Clarence Prager of I company. Our guess is the picture was taken in England before D-Day 1944.
He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for actions he took against the enemy on the day he was killed,
September 18,1944 in Holland.
The photo below was taken in May of 1944 in front of the Goscote Hotel, Leicester, England.
