John H. Rabig was drafted into the army from Chicago, Illinois on October 2nd 1941. Known as "Tony" to friends and family, he served as the 1st Sergeant of D Company, 505 Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division. John earned his Combat Infantryman's Badge in Sicily. He fought in all six Campaigns, Sicily, Italy, Normandy, Holland, Ardennes and Germany. 1st Sergeant Rabig was honorably discharged on September 24th 1945.
He married in 1949 and worked as an electrician for Peoples Gas in Chicago, retiring in 1976; he and Margaret and their five children lived in Chicago until 1966 and then moved to the suburb of Bridgeview. He passed away in 2000 at the age of 83, and is buried in the Abraham Lincoln Veterans Cemetery in Joliet, Illinois; his wife Margaret passed away in 2023 and her ashes are buried there with him.
