Private Kenneth L. Harris entered Army service on October 5th,1942 from Port Huron, Saint Clair County, Michigan. Kenneth completed his parachute training at jump school, earning his wings in January of 1943, Private Kenneth L. Harris came to the 505 Parachute Infantry Regiment, G company in March of 1943. He made all four combat jumps with the Regiment, Sicily, Italy, Normandy and Holland. Unfortunately, Kenneth was killed in action, crossing the Elbe river on April 30th 1945, the last combat mission of the war for the 82nd Airborne Division.
Private Kenneth L. Harris was a Purple Heart medal recipient, he was awarded the Silver Star medal, for his actions on Biazzo Ridge, Sicily in July of 1943.
During the Normandy, France combat jump, Kenneth's 3rd battalion was responsible for securing the town of Saint Mere Eglise, where several vital roads connected, that were important to the German Army. See news article below.
