2nd Batallion - 503rd Parachute Infantry
On June 11, 1942 the 2nd Batallion, 503rd Parachute Infantry landed (by convoy) in the British Isles. They were the first American paratroopers to come to Europe.
The main objective of the first use of parachute forces in November of 1942 was to deny the German Luftwaffe the use of French military aerodromes south of Oran, North Africa.
